Power Dressing ist mehr als nur ein Trend – es ist ein Statement. In der Modewelt hat sich der Stil als Symbol für Stärke, Selbstbewusstsein und Professionalität etabliert. Was in den 1970er und 1980er Jahren als Modebewegung begann, hat sich heute zu einer vielschichtigen Ausdrucksform entwickelt, die in Bereichen wie Politik, Business und dem öffentlichen Leben eine entscheidende Rolle spielt, aber auch von Jedermann im Alltag getragen werden kann. Ob Hosenanzüge oder Oversized-Blazer – Power Dressing ist ein Modestil, der heute nicht nur im Business-Kontext, sondern auch auf dem Laufsteg präsent ist.
Wir werfen einen Blick zurück in die Geschichte von Schulterpolstern und Nadelstreifen, um zu erfahren, welche Bedeutung Power Dressing damals hatte. Und wir zeigen, wie der ursprünglich maskuline Look im Herbst 2024 modern gestylt wird und dabei ganz viel Frauen-Power ausstrahlt.
Frauen an die Macht: Ursprung des Power Dressings
Heute ist es unumstritten, dass Frauen über große Stärke verfügen. Sie gründen erfolgreiche Unternehmen, engagieren sich aktiv in der Politik und sind als Aktivistinnen tätig. Das war nicht immer so: Nur vereinzelt tauchen berühmte Frauen in den Geschichtsbüchern auf, einige Berufe oder bestimmte Positionen waren den Herren vorbehalten.
Ab den 1970er Jahren konnten Frauen dann zunehmend in traditionell männlich dominierten Berufen Fuß fassen und wollten diese Präsenz auch mit ihrer Kleidung zum Ausdruck bringen.
Der Begriff „Power Dressing“ lässt sich wörtlich mit „kraftvolles Anziehen“ übersetzen. In den 1980er Jahren hatte die Bewegung ihren Höhepunkt: Die beruflich erfolgreiche Frau trug nun kantige Anzüge mit breiten Schultern, taillierte Blazer und Bleistiftröcke. Diese „Uniformen“ sollten Professionalität und Autorität ausstrahlen, so wollten sich die Frauen Gehör verschaffen und Gleichberechtigung in einer männerdominierten Gesellschaft erlangen. Die Mode wurde zu einem Ausdrucksmittel, um die bestehende Geschlechterdynamik zu hinterfragen und zu verändern.
Ein bekanntes Beispiel aus dieser Zeit ist die ehemalige britische Premierministerin Margaret Thatcher mit ihren charakteristischen Anzügen und Broschen. Nach und nach nutzten immer mehr Frauen aus dem öffentlichen Leben die Wirkung des Modestils, von einer jungen Hilary Clinton in breitschultrigen Blazern bis hin zu Schauspielerin Julia Roberts, die im Herrenanzug über rote Teppiche lief.

Power Dressing heute: Vielfalt und Individualität
Heute kann Power Dressing alles sein, was Stärke und Selbstbewusstsein ausstrahlt – von farbenfrohen Anzügen und auffälligen Mustern bis hin zu eleganten Kleidern und ausgefallenen Accessoires. Besonders in der Politik nutzen führende Frauen, wie aktuell die US-Vizepräsidentin und Präsidentschaftskandidatin Kamala Harris, das Power Dressing als strategisches Werkzeug, um ihre Positionen und ihre Botschaften zu unterstreichen. Sie ist bekannt für ihre schlichten, aber eleganten Hosenanzüge, auch gerne mal in Farbe, die oft mit einer Perlenkette – einem subtilen Symbol für weibliche Stärke – kombiniert werden. Bei weniger formellen Anlässen trägt sie ihre Business-Looks auch gerne mit Converse-Sneakern. Ein gezieltes Mittel, um über die Mode Bodenständigkeit und Nahbarkeit zu vermitteln, und trotzdem stilvoll zu bleiben.

Die Business-Looks für den Herbst 2024
Power-Dressing kommt wohl nie wirklich aus der Mode. Hosenanzüge und Blazer in verschiedenen Kombinationen sind auch jetzt im Herbst ein stylischer Begleiter, nicht nur im Büro. Nach wie vor im Trend sind Oversized-Blazer mit straightem Schnitt, gerne in klassischem Schwarz, Weiß, Grau oder Dunkelblau. Aber auch karierte Pieces mit Tartan- oder Glencheck-Muster in braun-grünen Herbstfarben – kombiniert mit einer schicken Bluse – geben uns eine moderne, selbstbewusste Ausstrahlung.
Wer es lieber figurbetonter mag, macht auch mit einer taillierten Blazer-Variante nichts falsch, gerne in Kombination mit Röcken und ausgewählten Accessoires. Ein breiter Gürtel über dem Blazer rückt die Taille in den Fokus und verleiht dem Outfit eine feminine, aber kraftvolle Silhouette. Schuhe, Taschen und Co. sollen den Look ergänzen, ohne ihn zu überladen. Blockabsatz-Sandalen oder Stiefeletten und eckige Handtaschen ergänzen den Business-Look perfekt.

Obwohl Frauen im Jahr 2024 nicht mehr überall gegen Diskriminierung ankämpfen müssen, ist der Begriff Power Dressing fest in der Modesprache verankert und steht für die Manifestation weiblicher Stärke, Durchsetzungskraft und Erfolg. Heute dominiert der Look nicht nur die Laufstege führender Designer, sondern hat auch die Streetstyle-Mode erobert und kann auf vielfältige Weise interpretiert werden.
